Utah Slim
Utah Slim is a Western Folk artist who loves to sing about Southern Utah's Colorado Plateau. Red Rock, Slickrock, Pioneer Stock, Livestock, Wildstock---all of these run, dream, walk, play, work, live and die in his storied and colorful songs.
Slim spent many seasons as a trail guide and counselor at the Deer Creek Institute in Boulder, Utah, one of the largest remaining roadless areas in the continental US. His stories are of the landscape and people who live there now, as well as in the past. "Charlie and Evadine" and "Hello Boulder" are examples of his songs about real people in rural Utah. Slim also sings about current land-use issues in the west and at does at times protest as in "Sister San Rafael" and Sigurd (The Health of the Land).
Slim is inspired by great troubadours including Ian Tyson, Bob Dylan and Chuck Pyle. He knows of what he sings.
This winter, Utah Slim is the host of the weekly open mic held every Tuesday night at Alchemy Coffee in Salt Lake City (1700 south 400 East). Sign up is at 6 PM. Come on by!
Recent performances include IAMA Local Concert Series and the Torrey Music Festival. Slim is a Winfield Winner! He was just selected as the winner of the Better World category of the Newsongs Showcase at the Walnut Valley Festival!
